Behind the camera

I'm Beth Dearden, an emerging Australian photographer passionate about capturing the world around me. I mainly work with traditional analogue techniques in the darkroom and with my 6x7 camera. I view my work as a blend of lyrical, speculative documentary, playing with the line between reality and illusion to create meaningful connections through materiality. I believe visual language is incredibly powerful—it goes beyond spoken languages and cultures. I want to make work that people can understand easily, but that also invites them to speak and share their own stories. I love exploring the stories and culture around me, and my goal is to create images that connect on a human level, evoke emotion, and inspire curiosity.
